アメリカ留学は高い！とよく言われていますが、ある意味そうかもしれません。

 

正確にいうとものすごく高いところと、まぁまぁ高いところがあるといったところでしょうか
今回はアメリカ留学が高い理由や、どれくらい高いかを例でまとめています。

また、大学リサーチを行っている方に向けて’、
正確な学費の調べ方を図解しながら詳しくご紹介していきます。

 

アメリカに行こうかと迷ってはいるものの、
いくらかかるのか分からないと、親とも相談できませんしね。

 

大学の学費を調べるにあたって、
学費が分かりにくい理由はいくつかあるので、

なぜアメリカ大学の学費は高いのか？

アメリカの大学の学費が日本と比べて高いといわれている理由は、

 

大学側が外国人に、現地の人と比べて、２倍の学費を請求しているからなんです。

 

現地の人、正確に言うと現地の州の人が払う学費がIn-state fee と呼ばれ、

州の外に住んでいる人が払う学費を Out-of-State feeと呼んでいます。

留学生はもちろん、州の外からきてるわけですから、out-of-state feeが適応されてしまいます。

下↓は僕の通っているWichita Stateの学費なんですが、

In-Stateの場合は、年間約8400ドルですが、
Out-of-Stateの場合年間約17400ドルとおよそ２倍ほど学費がかかってしまいます。

これがアメリカ留学が高いといわれている理由ですね。

また、↑は12単位の場合の学費を表したものですが、
15単位、18単位と増えるにつれて、学費も高くなってしまいます。

これに加え寮費や、生活費などもかかってしまうので、アメリカ留学は高くなってしまう傾向があるんですね。

どれくらい高いのか？

ここからは具体的にどれくらい高いのかまとめていきますね。

アメリカも日本の大学と同じように、

州立か私立によって学費もかなり違ってきます。

（アメリカの場合は国立ではなく、州立大学が一般的ですね。）

また、コミュニティカレッジ（2年生の短大）という安い選択肢もあります。

 

ざっとアメリカの学費の平均をまとめると、

・州立で年間20000ドル　（220万円）i
・私立で年間35000ドル　　（380万円）
・州立のコミュニティカレッジは年間9000ドル　（100万円）
・私立のコミュカレは年間15000ドル　（１60万円）

といった感じになります。

あくまでも平均なので、これより安い場合もありますし、高い場合もありますので、
大体の目安ぐらいに考えておいてくださいね。

参考までに、
日本の大学の平均年間学費を調べてみると、

・国立で年間53万円
・私立で年間100万円

くらいなので、最低でも2倍はかかってしまうようですね。

ですが、アメリカの大学の場合、入学費というものがないので、
そこは浮かせることができます。

いかにして学費を安く抑えるか

アメリカ留学が高いのは分かったけど、

それでもアメリカ留学をしたいと思う人もたくさんいると思います。

なので、ここからは、

価値あるアメリカ留学をなるべく学費を抑えながら、実現できる方法をご紹介していきますね。

 

結論から言うと、

アメリカ留学の最初の2年間はコミュニティカレッジで終わらすことが、

僕の知ってる中で一番学費を抑えることができる方法です。

 

というのも、

アメリカのどの大学に行ったとしても、最初の2年間はどこもすることは同じなんです。

最初の2年間は教養科目を終わらすことが大学の教育プログラムとなっているので、

その最初の2年を比較的学費の安い、コミュニティカレッジで終わらしてしまおうという話です。

 

最初の2年で教養科目をコミュカレでとってしまって、残りの2年は他のしっかりとした大学で専門科目を学ぶ

 

これがベストです。

 

これをするにあたって、いくつか気を付けてほしいことがあるんですが、

➊　最終的に行く大学をあらかじめ決めておく
➋　コミュカレはその最終的に行く大学と同じ州のものに通う
➌　最終的に行きたい大学のカリキュラムを確認しておく

この3つを踏まえたうえで、コミュカレに通ってください。

理由を説明していきますね。

 

コミュカレから４年制の大学に行く際に、

必要になるのが単位の移行なんですが、

カリキュラムが違うという理由で、単位移行が認められない場合が多々あるんです。

州が違うと、特に単位が無駄になる場合が多いので、

お金を節約するためには、同じ州のコミュカレに通ってください。

そのためには、事前に行きたい大学を決めておく必要がありますし、

その大学のクラスの移行可能有無も調べておく必要があります。

単位移行可能有無は大学サイト内で

Transfer course equivalency と検索すると調べることができます。

Wichita Stateの場合はこんな感じです↓

州、学校名、科目、番号を入力すると

そのクラスが単位移行可能か教えてくれます。

正確な学費のリサーチ方法

少し話がそれてしまいましたが、

ここからは正確な学費のリサーチ方法を説明していきます。

 

正確な学費を把握できず、お金が足りないなんてことになったら、

休学、もしくは進路変更などしないといけなくなりますから、

リサーチをしっかりするに越したことはありません。

 

大学のウェブサイトに行っても学費ってしっかり載ってないことの方が多いんですよね。

そこで役に立つウェブサイトがこちら↓

このウェブサイトでは、

アメリカの全ての大学、コミュニティカレッジの学費を調べることができます。

大学がある州を選んで、学校を選ぶと、

大学の学費の内訳が記載されています。↓

in stateとout of state の情報が載っているので、

out of stateの方を参照してください。

Wichita Stateの場合だと、

学費自体はOut-of-State feeとother fees を足した17400ドルということになります。

ただし12単位の場合なので、

15単位にする場合は1.25倍

18単位の場合は1.5倍の学費がかかるのでそこも考慮してください。

基本は15単位取ることになると思います。

Room and Boardには寮で済む場合の寮費と食費が入っています。

寮ではなくアパートで住む場合はこちらはかかりません。

実際300ドルほどで足りるはずです。

一応なんですが、

学費の払い方を説明しておきますね。

基本的に大学に授業料を払う際には、アメリカで銀行の講座を開設する必要があります。

その口座に日本からお金を送金してもらって、

学校の学生専用のウェブサイト から学費を支払いを行います。

支払いの際に、その作った口座の番号などを口座番号を入力する感じです。
